Michail Karamalakis
He is from Achentria of Archanes – Asterousia Municipality in Heraklion, but he was born in Soufli of Evros Prefecture in 1964.
He is married and father of two children.
He joined the Hellenic Gendarmerie in 1982 and graduated from the Hellenic Police Officers’ Academy in 1988.
He served, for a significant number of years, as a Police Commander, in various first-line posts, in the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete.
He also held the position of board member on the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers for a number of years, while also serving as an active member of the Council of European Police Unions (CESP).
In his capacity asSenior Officer, he served as Head of the Heraklion Police Directorate with the rank of Police Brigadier General, from March 2012 to April 2014, when he was promoted to the rank of Police Major General and appointed asHead of the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete.
On 16/02/2016, he was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant General and was also appointedas General Police Inspector for Northern Greece. During his service there, hesupervised and coordinated the Idomeni camp evacuation operationthat took place in May 2016.
On 21/01/2017, he was appointed to the post of Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, while, at the same time, serving as Acting Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Police.
On 02/11/2018, he was appointed to the post of Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Police.
From 19/7/2019 to 31/03/2022, he served as Chief of the Hellenic Police.
On 01/09/2022, he was appointed to the post of Secretary-General for Public Order in the Ministry of Citizen Protection.
