Mr. Michalis Chrisochoidis has been serving as Minister of Citizen Protection since October 7, 2009. He currently serves his 9^th term as an MP of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK).

Mr Chrisochoidis returned to office at a period of turmoil and public insecurity. His first term as the Minister of Public Order is considered as the most successful and longest (1999-2003) including unprecedented achievements as follows:

• The terrorist organization 17N (November 17) was dismembered.
• The number of crimes solved doubled and criminality was reduced over 1999-2003 as a result of targeted initiatives such as the increase of patrols and the creation of the “Neighborhood Police Officer” (community policing)
• The number of traffic accidents showed an impressive drop. Fatalities decreased around 35% and serious injuries 52% due to the implementation of the action plan “KATHODON”.
• The largest decrease in the number of arsons over the past 50 years
• The successful and secure organization of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

Mr Chrisochoidis stated goal is to show zero tolerance against crime and work systematically with all Security Agencies for the improvement of the Greek citizens security. From the very first day he assumed duties, he has been committed to building a new relationship of trust between the Hellenic Police and the citizens based on democratic principle and respect on human rights. He is committed to the modernisation of the Greek security agencies (Police, Coastguard, Fire Service, Civil Protection) and their cooperation in order to achieve higher levels of citizens’ protection.

Mr. Chrisochoidis, a graduate of the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is 54 years old. His mothers originates from Pafra in the Black Sea region and his father from Magnisia in Asia Minor. His family moved to Northern Greece during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1922. He is a father of two sons and one daughter.
