Today (25-02-06) a ceremony took place at the outdoor area of the Ministry of Public Order in which the memorial of officers that perished on duty was unveiled.
His Beatitude Mr. Christodoulos, the Archbishop of Athens and the rest of Greece officiated at the ceremony to the memory of the perished officers.
The following officials attended the ceremony: Mr. Vyron Polydoras, Minister of Public Order, Mr. Leonidas Evaggelidis, General Secretary of the Ministry, Police Lieutenant General Mr. George Aggelakos, Chief of the Hellenic Police Force, Police Lieutenant General Mr. George Kanellos, Police Lieutenant General Mr. Anastassios Dimoshakis, Head of General Staff of the Hellenic Police Force, Police Lieutenant General Mr. Efstratios Kyriakakis, General Inspector of North Greece as well as other top rank officials from the Hellenic Police Force.
Moreover, the ceremony attended representatives from the political circles of this country, by Head of Services in which perished officers had served, police officers from the Attica Divisions, members of the families of perished officers and representatives of the Unions and of the Federation of Retired Police Officers, of Trade Unions and Federations of the staff of the Hellenic Police Force as well as representatives of Friends of the Police Clubs.
Before the ceremony, his Beatitude Mr. Christodoulos, the Archbishop of Athens and of the rest of Greece officiated at another service to the memory of the police officers that perished on duty in the Holy Temple of the Greatest Archangels in the venue of the Former Police Academy (96, Messogeion st.,). As it is well known, this ceremony takes place in the first All Souls? Day of every year as a result of the initiative of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Police Agents in cooperation with the Hellenic Police Force Headquarters.
It must be noted that the retired Police Warrant Officer Mr. Evaggelos Mitsou created the sculpture.

Memorial of perished police officers 
 
 
 
The city in which a police officer moves and lives is depicted at the back. The iron sculpture in front of the statue depicts the Police Force, patron of the citizens and guardian of the family. The Police Officer gives a last kiss to his/her family and his soul leaves the body through the shield.
 
The memorial is in the outdoor area in front of the Ministry of Public Order.
