18-01-2006: Statement with the answer by the Minister of Public Order on today`s presence of Mr. Christos Markoyannakis in the meeting at the Ministry

The Minister of Public Order, Mr. George Voulgarakis, answering to a journalist?s question on today`s presence of Mr. Christos Markoyannakis in a meeting at the Ministry, clarified the following:

“During his mandate at the Ministry of Public Order, Mr. Christos Markoyannakis handled particularly sensitive issues of paramount legal importance, such as the contract with SAIC for C4I system, rising up to a multi-million amount of euros.

Today, in the meeting on C4I with SAIC executives and official agents of the Ministry, he was asked to attend and contribute with his experience and knowledge to the developments regarding this particular case.

Such practices have already been adopted in the past, from the moment the new Political Leadership took over at the Ministry, in order to fully profit from the experience and special knowledge of the former Secretary General of the Ministry, Mr. Dimitrios Efstathiadis.

From this angle, the attempt of making a political issue out of the presence of the former Deputy Minister at the Ministry cannot hold.”
