08-02-2006: Statement by the Minister of Public Order regarding a journalist`s question on a relative of his working in Vodafone

MINISTRY OF PUBLIC ORDER
MINISTER OFFICE
Athens,  08/02/2006
STATEMENT
The Minister of Public Order, Mr. George Voulgarakis, noted the following, in relation to a question put during the regular briefing session with the politics journalists, according to which a relative of the Minister used to work in the past as a legal counselor in Vodafone:
“In no case may there be any form of incompatibility between the profession of a relative or a member of family of a Minister or Member of Parliament and the latter. Besides, the concept of family responsibility draws back to the Nazi regime – as rightly mentioned by the Minister of Territory – and this is why it is not accepted by the Government of the New Democracy Party.
Therefore, whatever profession the members of my family may have, it is in full compliance with the law and completely irrelevant to my own political activity.
As far as the substance of your question is concerned, those who have mistaken libellous for their profession need to know that neither the law office `Dionyssis, Alexios and Dimitrios Pelekis` nor my wife, the notary Katerina Peleki, ever had or have any professional or other relation with the companies Panafone or Vodafone.”
