FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III visited the Public Order Ministry today, accompanied by the US embassy in Athens` charge d` affaires, J. Walles, and an American delegation of officials.
Public Order Minister Georgios Floridis received Mueller, who also met with Greek Police (EL.AS) Chief Lt.-Gen. Fotios Nassiakos and the Director of the National Intelligence Service, Pavlos Apostolidis.
Topics of mutual interest, and especially cooperation on security for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, were discussed.
Additionally, in recognition of Greek authorities` achievements in the fight against domestic terrorism, FBI Director Mueller presented awards to:
Lt.-Gen. Fotios Nassiakos, Greek Police (EL.AS) Chief
Pavlos Apostolidis, National Intelligence Service (EYP) Director
Brig.-Gen. Stylianos Syrros, Special Crimes Task Force head
Brig.-Gen. Efstratios Kyriakakis, Criminology Division head
Ioannis Diotis, Special First Instance Court Prosecutor
Finally, Mueller presented an award to the head of Greek Police`s central command, Lt.-Gen. Nikolaos Tasiopoulos, for his long-time cooperation with the FBI on issues involving coordination and exchange of information, as well as on investigations regarding serious criminal cases.
