HELLENIC POLICE FORCE HEADQUARTERS
Athens, 05/01/05
In relation to the homicide of two police agents and the death of the Russian national ΖHILLIN Maxim, the following information has derived from the examinations carried out up to this moment at the Firearms Laboratory Department and at the Department of Instruments? Tracing in Athens as well as at the Department of Chemical and Physical Analysis of the Criminology Research Sub-Division in Thessalonica:
- An increased quantity of lead has been detected in ΖHILLIN Maxim?s hands and in particular in his right index. This is the trace of shooting having taken place, given the fact that the presence of lead in the body?s hands may not be justified in any other way. This is why samples of mud were taken from the place where the body was found in order to proceed to further comparative laboratory examinations.
- Two out of three shots in the body of Police Sergeant Konstantinos VLAHOPANOS and the shot in the body of the Russian ΖHILLIN Maxim came out of the operational weapon that the foreign national had taken from the police agents and that was found next to his body.
- The third shot in the body of Police Sergeant Konstantinos VLAHOPANOS cannot lead to safe results as to its origin because the shot?s individual traces have been almost completely destroyed (it is not a usable bullet from the laboratory point of view). The shot in the body of Police Sergeant Dimitrios KOTSIS, which was not destroyed to the same extent as to its individual traces, is also considered to have come out of the same weapon, according to the laboratory examination.
