DAILY ORDER FOR MARCH 25, 2006

The staff of the Ministry of Public Order
March 25 is a day of national moral uplift and mental concentration. This is how I would suggest we all viewed this day. Maybe we should think again and become conscious once more of the meaning of that sacrifice for Freedom. This is the only act that makes human beings become something more than what they really are, this is the only act that upraises humanity and lifts us up to the sky. The heroes of 1821 are watching us from above. They are glad to see us respecting their national and moral heritage, in other words the resurrected free nation-state that they gave us. Kolokotronis wrote the following about Rigas: “He was the great national benefactor. His ink is worth just as much as the blood of saints before God”. I would like to take note of this phrase and I would also like to urge you all, the staff of the Ministry of Public Order, to become conscious of the fact that respecting the oath you have taken when serving your duties, expressing self-sacrifice and altruism when attending the citizens, being sensitive as to the suffering human being next to you, all this constitutes your (and our) moral duty and your (and our) contribution to our lawful European Democracy. This indeed is the best and only way to pay tribute to the Independence movement of 1821.
